These datasets contain information on the geographic distribution of individuals of different ethnicities living in 362 metropolitan areas. This data assigns random coordinates to individuals by race and ethnicity within their census block. The assigned coordinate, also called a “dot,” is a thematic representation of the individual’s location. These coordinates are estimated using the 2010 Census Block data.

Additional Notes | This data is created based on the number of people reported by block and by ethnicity, each of whom is assigned a randomized coordinate within their census block. Ethnicity categories are also based on 2010 Census categories and can range from White, Black, Asian, Hispanic, Other, or Two or more races. One “dot” or coordinate represents one individual. The data is split up by metropolitan area, so that one file contains the randomized coordinates of all individuals aged 0-17 in one metropolitan area. |
